Blue Ducks set to begin 2005 season

Nate “Tiny” Archibald era to begin in two weeks

Melbourne , FL – The Brevard Blue Ducks are two weeks away from a new era as they prepare to begin their 2005 summer season under new head coach, NBA Hall of Famer, Nate “Tiny” Archibald.

“We've got all our players excited about the season. They're chomping at the bit, ready to begin playing,” remarked team owner, Mike Richman . “They can't wait to get out there and play in front of their home crowd. Nate's (Archibald) excited… I'm excited… the players and the rest of the coaching staff are excited. We can't wait to get out there.”

In two weeks they'll get their chance, as the Blue Ducks begin their fourth season Friday, June 10 th against FastBreak USA , a pro team from central Florida . The season will feature games against teams from cities who haven't visited Brevard before – from Virginia to Texas to as far away as Utah . It will also feature something unique – a basketball “double-header” on Sunday, July 3 rd against the Dallas Diesel. Fans will get to see two games for the price of one admission.

“It'll be great to see some new teams from other parts of the country come here to Brevard to play,” added Richman. “It will be a treat for our fans to get to see some different teams from other cities that they've never seen before.”

One of those teams – the West Virginia Wild concerns Richman a bit. They boast former Florida Gator – and former Blue Duck – Brett Nelson on their team.

“I'm sure Brett's going to want to come in here and hang fifty on us,” quipped Richman.

Thunderstix are back! The Blue Ducks have announced several season promotions beginning with their most popular promotion of the season last year, “Thunderstix” night. The first 250 kids attending the game opening night will receive a free pair of Thunderstix. The popular noisemakers are not only a hit with fans, but a hit with the team as well. The Blue Ducks have lost only one game in their history on nights when they've given out the tubular, blow-up sticks that fans bang together to make noise and become part of the game. There are four Thunderstix Nights planned for the season.

“The noise they make is incredible,” commented Ducks owner, Richman. “They help make a great atmosphere and really help us create a home court advantage.”

Another, environmentally-driven promotional night takes place on Tuesday, June 14 th when the Blue Ducks and BellSouth Real Yellow Pages host BellSouth Real Yellow Pages Recycle Night. Any fan bringing who brings their old Yellow Pages phone book to the game to be recycled gets a half-price ticket and a free gift – courtesy of BellSouth Yellow Pages. In addition, special BellSouth Real Yellow Pages prizes are planned for the evening.

Following, is the Blue Ducks 2005 season home schedule, with several of the planned season promotions. More promotions will be announced during the season.
