Blue Ducks to sponsor TeenFest basketball competition

Blue Chicks to appear at Saturday's event

Melbourne, Florida – The Brevard Blue Ducks will be sponsoring a basketball skills competition at the Brevard County Parks & Recreation Department's “TeenFest” to be held this Saturday at Kiwanis Park in Merritt Island.

The basketball competition will include a 3-on-3 competition and a 3-point shooting contest. There will be two age groups: 13-15 years and 16-over, with prizes being awarded to the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd places finishers in each group. Among the prizes will be free Blue Ducks tickets. The Blue Ducks dance squad, the Blue Chicks, will be present to help run the event and distribute prizes.

“We are happy to support our county's Parks and Recreation department in such a worthwhile endeavor,” stated team owner, Mike Richman. “This is a great event and will really be fun for the teens involved.”

TeenFest will take place from 4:00 – 10:00 PM. The basketball contests are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

There will be no cars allowed on the premises during the event. Teens from all over Brevard will be bused to the event courtesy of Space Coast Area Transit. Continuous bus service will be available at the Park-N-Ride at Merritt Square Mall. Buses will also leave at approx. 3:30 PM from the Port St. John Community Center as well as the following high schools: Bayside, Palm Bay, Eau Gallie, Titusville and Astronaut.

The Blue Ducks will begin their fourth year of United States Basketball League action in April. The USBL begins its 20th th season having sent over 140 players on to the NBA. Stars such as Avery Johnson, Anthony Mason, Chris Childs, Charlie Ward and former Orlando Magic player, Darrell Armstrong all came from the USBL.
