Melbourne, FL - Brevard Blue Ducks rookie Tony Bland (Syracuse/San Diego State) who won the 2004 USBL Rookie of the Year award, has been named to the Golden State Warriors summer league team that will be participating in the Southern California Summer Pro League to be held July 10 th 25 th in Long Beach, California. Bland, a 6-5, 200-pound G/F who Brevard got from Adirondack, led the Blue Ducks in scoring at 20.5 PPG (18.9 PPG overall) to go along with 5.7 APG and 5.5 RPG.
Tony was incredible for us, remarked Duck owner, Mike Richman. He definitely deserves to be added to the Warriors team and get a legitimate shot at the NBA.
He will be joined by Blue Ducks teammate Ousmane Cisse (6-9, 250 lbs. Forward St. Jude HS). Cisse averaged 7.4 PPG and 6.1 RPG. A year ago, he led the USBL in blocked shots as a member of the Ducks and appeared for the Orlando Magic as a member of their Pepsi Summer League squad.
Brett Nelson (6-4, 205 lbs. Forward Florida), though an early season bust with Brevard, was named to the New York Knicks squad along with fellow Gator teammate Brent Wright.
Ramel Curry (6-3, 190 lbs. Guard CSU Bakersfield), who was in the Ducks pre-season veterans camp was named to the Los Angeles Lakers team.
This shows the talent level in the USBL, remarked Richman. We're happy for our players, happy for our organization and happy for our fans in Brevard who truly get a chance each year to see tomorrow's NBA stars today.
