Blue Ducks Tony Bland wins Rookie of the Week

Brevard guard wins honor for third straight week

Melbourne, FL – With games of 24, 17, 21 and 19 points, Blue Ducks guard Tony Bland won his third consecutive “Rookie of the Week” honor from the USBL this week.

Since coming to Brevard, Bland has led the team in scoring with a 19 PPG average and has demonstrated tenacious defense as well as the ability to handle the ball in clutch situations. He is considered a frontrunner to win the USBL's “Rookie of the Year” award.

“Tony's been tremendous for us,” remarked team owner, Mike Richman. “He's definitely got NBA-level skills.”

Apparently, there is some agreement to that statement as he's already been invited to summer camp by the NBA's Indiana Pacers immediately after the season.

Richard Jetter, a 6-6 guard that the Blue Ducks recently acquired, garnered honorable mention in this week's award balloting after scoring 28 and 22 points in his first two games with Brevard.

DUCK NOTES:

Brevard plays its last home game of the season this Sunday (6/13) at 5 PM at the Clemente Center against the St. Louis Skyhawks. In deference to the “Thunderstix effect” – Brevard seems to win only when they hand out the noisemakers at home games, team owner Mike Richman promised he'd do whatever it takes to get his hands on more Thunderstix to give out to fans at Sunday's game.
