Blue Ducks veterans camp opens today
Players file into Melbourne to vie for spots on teams
2004 roster
Melbourne, FL Theyre coming in from basketball
outposts in Finland, Mexico and Croatia. Established U.S. leagues like
the CBA and NBDL. All totaled, about 30 basketball pros from around
the world will run, jump and play ball in front of Blue Ducks head coach,
Robert Reid and his staff, trying to impress the new coach enough to vie
for a spot on the 2004 USBL roster.
The Blue Ducks are hoping for a major turnaround from last
season and are hoping to accomplish it with a new coach and a lot of fresh
blood.
We have worked diligently in the off-season to find
the best basketball talent in the world, remarked Ducks personnel
director, Derek Howard. We are working to address two weak areas
from last season, depth at the guard position and size.
Former UF stars Brett Nelson and Teddy Dupay will certainly
help address the first issue. Players like 71 Darrel Johns
and 611 Alvin Jefferson will address the other.
The Blue Ducks pre-season camp will run from now until
April 14th, with two-a-day workouts at 9-11 AM and 5-7 PM at Florida Tech,
the norm.
The Blue Ducks begin their third season of USBL action
on April 16th in Florence, South Carolina. Their first home game of the
season is Thursday, April 22nd at the Clemente Center in Melbourne. For
tickets call (321) 751-BLUE (2583) or log on to their website at www.BrevardBlueDucks.com.
